9 Clothing Tips for Dating Profiles

Our dating app photographers will always make sure YOU are the main focus, but the lens loves it when your clothes suit the situation and doesn’t overshadow your personality or the location.
We have some hot takes on what you might want to wear on Tinder or Bumble or whatever your favourite online dating platform is and perhaps more importantly, what you should avoid on these sites.

1: Don’t wear too much jewellery
Besides creating a distraction, decorating yourself with bling might give off an arrogance that you don't want to portray or simply do not harbour in your personality.
When thinking about how to make yourself more attractive on dating apps you don’t want to lead someone too far away from the actual you, otherwise the online chats will be great but the meet ups will have unexpected results.
2: Avoid wearing too little
If you’re on a hook up app then maybe the lines blur a bit more here but most of us will want to keep things wrapped up.
Mainstream apps like Hinge or Bumble have very strict codes of conduct regarding this and you won’t last long even with the slightest flash.
3: Let go of your accessories
Your chewing gum, cigarettes, designer bags and groomed puppies can all sit on the side lines for a while until you’re done. What a huge distraction these things are and what a waste of framing space!
If there is something in your hands then make sure it's part of your hobby or an activity you’re taking part in.
4: Avoid large logos and brand names
Not in every case but in most cases we have seen that this comes across as too brash. Need to show everyone how much your Armani shirt is worth? Then you probably spent too much.
5: Wear clothes that show off your figure
Clothes that hug the body and accentuate a good figure are perfect for our dating photoshoots. They make setting up the composition for shots extremely easy for the photographer.
In the same way, you should not really be looking to hide your figure, no matter how you feel about it, as this may affect the success of meet ups.
6: Best outfits for a dating profile?
So it turns out the best clothes to wear on dating apps or when you are about to have photos taken for dating are the ones that accentuate what YOU want from dating. If you’re looking good times under the sheets, and your app allows it, dress freely 😉
But in most cases the best clothes to wear for your dating profile are the ones that seem like you didn’t try too hard but still have you lookin kinda hot.
For men this is sometimes jeans and a v-neck t-shirt that shows off the pectorals. For women this can be a summer dress that they bought because it matches their hair colour.
There are not too many wrong answers here - just assume that many swipers will be giving you about 6 seconds to impress, so dress accordingly.
7: How many photos should a dating profile have?
Every shot is a new chance to impress but it’s also a new chance to disappoint and put someone off - so you won’t need to go above 6-7.
8: What should your first picture be on a dating app?
Most go with their favourite shot and this is absolutely the way to go. You are not always the best judge of how you look but you are certainly the best to decide what first impression you want to make.
If you have a sports pic, playing tennis or football etc, then slide this one up first and see what type of difference it makes. Sports shots are always reported to gain the most matches across women and men alike.
9: What makes an attractive dating profile?
Natural photos will always beat out photos that use filters, alterations or any kind of dabbling. Be sure to smile in most of the shots and don’t cover up your face with your hands (on our photoshoots you’d be amazed at how much this happens)
Wear the clothes you own, don’t borrow as you are trying to keep things as real as possible. Be as creative as you like when it comes to the background and if you can find somewhere that contrasts with your clothes that's even better.
And don’t overthink this of course, just as a final rule, since this is supposed to be fun after all 😀
